Perth College
Among the wide range of transferrable skills available in the Tayside area, those relating to the music and media industry are amply provided by Perth College. The College has gained an international reputation for its provision of high quality, industry relevant education and training in modern music performance and audio engineering in addition to graphic design, visual arts and digital video production.
Perth College’s Music & Media Centre Opened in September 2001, this wonderful new building enhances the College’s national reputation as a major provider of fully trained integrated music and media courses for students as well as state-of-the-art facilities for musicians, recording companies, schools, local community groups, video and theatre companies, touring orchestras, exhibitions and conferences.
At the heart of the new centre are three Eastlake studios designed and installed by David Hawkin of Eastlake Audio with audio writing by Jeremy Wilson of Jemtek. Eastlake One houses an RN Mozart desk specially imported from Texas, while the two lower studios have MTA 990 and 980 desks respectively.
Eastlake One, the flagship of the building, provides a high level professional facility with studio area and vocal booth as well as having the ability to record live performances from the theatre. In addition green room facilities are provided as well as non-linear editing facilities for those working on music for video.
The 160 seat theatre provides a comfortable performance area for a range of activities, from live bands to chiors and chamber orchestras. A professional lighting rig, PA system and top range studio cameras, together with our Roland grand piano will set the scene for any live performance. The retractable seating enables the theatre to be used on an open plan basis for exhibitions, conerts and conferences. Semiar rooms and changing rooms are located adjacent to the theatre.
The main financial contributors to the project are the Millenium Commission through the University of the Highlands & Islands Millenium Institute. Other sponsors of the new cetnre include Roland UK, Yamaha, Sony in association with McMillan UK and DF Concerts.
