Dundee College

Dundee College’s commitment to delivering digital training continues to evolve in all areas. Investment in state of the art computer facilities in graphic design, illustration, 3D computer animation, music, video and web design provides a facility which attracts and trains an increasing number of full and part-time students. Articulation with university courses provides a major progression route for students who engage with higher level training with a full portfolio of skills gained at College - in digital technologies, art, design and multimedia.

An increasing number of digital media graduates also go directly into employment in Tayside. The workplacement programme is a vital link with local industries and provides a continuing dialogue about essential standards and skills. Up-to-the-minute software is used in all programmes, reflecting industry requirements. Industry upskilling programmes are pioneered and supported by the European Social Fund, following vital research into local skills shortages. A highly successful ESF project Women into Digital Industries, addressed the gender gap in a predominantly male industry and pioneered training to fit with work and family commitments.

Digital media is, of course, an increasing element in all training across all subject areas with online training offered as part of most of Dundee College’s mainstream programmes.  Our 3D Animation programme is pioneering the use of web-based tutorials and provides a model of good practice which can be adapted for other subjects, increasing participation in digital technologies to a much wider ranges of users.
